HOTEL 36

Hotel 36 offers a great location near just about everything in downtown Sofia. The hotel's old staircase is beautifully renovated and the room we had was quite big and comfy.Hotel 36 is housed in a building that is over a century old and the owner has fortunately allowed some of the old interior to remain visible. It’s a nice added feature which gave a sense of historic Sofia.In my opinion, the most fundamental thing when decorating a hotel room is to prioritize function over form. At Hotel 36 It’s an idiosyncratic mix of different styles, colors and designs that don’t always work practically. This is obviously just my humble opinion and I am sure other guests just love how the rooms are.Here’s my observations:• While very nice to look at, the bathroom had a sink in our room that was somewhat impractical. When you used the faucet, water inevitably splashed onto the floor in front of the sink.• When I took a shower, the floor got wet. A simple curtain would easily solve this.• One of the large, barely movable reading lamps on either side of the bed, almost fell down when I tried to adjust it. Again, form should never go before function. Reading lamps are supposed to be for... reading.• The bedside tables are way too low in height compared to the bed. Very impractical to have a glass of water on during the night.• We visited Hotel 36 in February and it was cold throughout the night, despite us having cranked up the heat as much as possible.• Breakfast was served by the hotel's friendly cleaning lady and just as in our room, it was freezing cold in the basement breakfast area. Even if it is an old building, I don’t think it’s okay to charge a boutique hotel room rate and then allow your guests to freeze in both their room and when eating breakfast.I can still recommend Hotel 36, but I’d wait until the spring arrives in Sofia. So you don’t freeze while staying there. Or until they put in some extra heaters!

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel 36 during my visit to Sofia, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. Located in the bustling city center, this modern hotel offers a convenient base for exploring the vibrant streets of Sofia.One of the notable aspects of Hotel 36 is its accessibility. Despite the reception not being available 24/7, they have implemented a simple and efficient system. Guests are provided with a contact number to call, which triggers the automatic opening of the door. I found this process to be seamless and reliable, ensuring easy access to the hotel at any time.The rooms at Hotel 36 are modern and well-appointed, providing a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Only on hot days the AC could do a better job, though.Additionally, the hotel's location is a major plus point. Being in the heart of Sofia allowed me to explore the city's attractions with ease. The proximity to the city center meant that popular landmarks, cultural sites, and vibrant dining options were within walking distance, making it incredibly convenient for sightseeing and experiencing the local culture.

Super schönes und modernes Hotel das aus einem Altbau entstanden ist. Unser Zimmer war ausreichend groß und geräumig. Der späte Check-in lief problemlos, am Hotel angekommen mussten wir lediglich eine Telefonnummer anrufen wodurch die Eingangstür geöffnet wurde, unsere Zimmerkarten lagen dann auch schon in einem Umschlag an der Rezeption bereit.

Good location, comfortable room, super friendly service. The hotel has a lot of interesting and unique touches. I would definitely stay there again next time I’m in Sofia.
